The 2015 Version of the Walker Viking Football Team will kickoff the season tonight against a familiar opponent. The Vikes will open this season the same way it opened last year, against Pell City. This game will be different in one way- It will be played in the friendly confines of beautiful Kiro-Gambrell Field. Coach Brunner and his team are excited about the opportunity to create another difference in last years matchup- The final score.
In last years opener, Walker lost a tough game on a late field goal 17-14 in route to a 6-5 season. In Walker’s 5 losses, 3 were by a total of 10 points. Coach Brunner and his staff look to turn around from a season where all of their goals were not met, and are excited about the opportunity the opening game gives them.
Pell City finished last season with the same 6-5 mark as the Vikings had. Following the close game that the two teams gave us last season, this game should be expected to be no different.
You might recognize a couple marked differences in Coach Brunner’s coaching staff this season, namely in his two coordinators. Coach Richard Kelly brings a ton of experience and plenty of energy to his new role as defensive coordinator. Veteran Offensive Coordinator, Coach Bobby Moore is also in a new role as he is taking the reigns to the Walker offense. Both are eager to get going, and excited about the season.
Come out and support the Vikings tonight at 7:00 at home as they get the season off and running against a very good Pell City team.
