On a gorgeous day at Fairhope High School baseball complex, the Jasper Viking Baseball Team began play in the Gulf Coast Classic, and the Vikes literally started with a bang- or better yet a bomb!
Senior Zac Durham hit his first of two homeruns on the day in the bottom of the first inning. The initial homerun was an absolute laser to left field. That bomb was not the final hard hit ball on the day for Viking Baseball, who posted 11 hits, 6 extra base hits, and 11 runs en route to an hour and fifteen minute, five inning 11-0 victory over East Lawrence High School.
Tyler Thomasson pitched a gem on the mound, going four innings, striking out five, and scattering four hits to move his record to 5-0 on the season. Seth Davidson came in and the lefty finished the game on the bump needing only six pitches (5 strikes) to retire the side in the fifth.
Durham led all hitters at the dish going 3-3 with two homeruns. Cam Robinson carded a pair of doubles at the plate, and Slade Harbin also added multiple hits, with a single and an opposite field homerun. Carson Alvis laced a 2 run, stand-up triple of his own down the right field line to round out the extra base hits for a Viking Offense who’s bats are matching the warm temperatures here at the beach.
With the win today, the baseball Vikes move to 16-6 on the year. Coach Ware and the 5A #5 Ranked Vikings will travel to Robertsdale High School tomorrow to play Collinsville, AL at 2:00 and Dale County, AL at 4:00.
