The Vikings had a busy week with a tough schedule for the first week of December.

Tuesday, December 3rd

Corner and Curry visited Carl Cannon Colosseum for the first home duals of the season. The first dual of the night was against Corner, the reigning Region 7 duals champion, who defeating Jasper last year for the title. The Vikings accepted the challenge and defeated Corner 60-15. They then wrestled Curry and defeated them 72-12.

Thursday, December 5th

Thursday night was the night for defending state champions to enter Carl Cannon Colosseum. Moody, the defending 1A-5A state champions, and McAdory, the defending 6A state champions, arrived ready to test the Vikings. Moody was Jasper’s first opponent of the evening. The Vikings wrestled well and defeated them 51-30. Next was McAdory who came in strong and prepared. Jasper lost a close one to them 34-40. This loss was one match from going Jasper’s way. The night was very competitive and a great test for this Jasper team.

Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th

The Varsity team placed 3rd out of 20 teams at the Gardendale Invitational.
Top 5 Team Scores were:
1st Gardendale- 237 pts
2nd Arab- 188 pts
3rd Jasper- 183 pts
4th Helena- 182 pts
5th McAdory- 171 pts

Jasper Individual placers were:

138 lb. Alex Glass- 4th place
145 lb. Maney Havis- 1st place
152 lb. Preston Reed- 2nd place
195 lb. Dash Rush- 2nd place
220 lb. Ross McWalters- 3rd place
285 lb. Brodie Vinson- 1st place

Multiple Jasper wrestlers were a match or two away from placing as well. Every starter contributed to the point total.

The Vikings get back to it this week with dual meets at Hayden on Tuesday and Tuscaloosa County on Thursday. They will then attend the Moody Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
