Harrison Saunders made his pledge official to Samford University this morning in front of friends, family, and teammates at Jasper High School. He has signed his paperwork to accept an invited walk-on position to join the Bulldog program. He joins senior football players Braxton Bridges, Drake Roberts, and Sheldrick Cherry as football signees, and becomes the 8th member of the class of 2020 to ink to play intercollegiate athletics.
Saunders, a first team all-state linebacker chose Samford over several other opportunities. Harrison expects to play inside linebacker and long snap while in Homewood, but looks forward to any and all opportunities he has to help his team be successful. He is extremely excited about the opportunity that Coach Chris Hatcher and Samford University afforded him, and eager to get on campus and start working.
Harrison chose Samford because “this is where God led me and it’s the best place and opportunity to play a high level of football”. While playing football on the hill, he plans to pursue an education in Sports Administration and also have a concentration in Christian Ministry, with future plans of becoming a pastor or a coach.
Harrison did not get where he is today by himself, and he has a great understanding of that. There are several that he would like to thank for the impact that they have had on his life. “First off, I want to thank God for giving me the ability and opportunity to play this amazing game. I would like to thank my family for always being there, my coaches for pushing me to be my best, my teammates because I couldn’t have done it without them. Finally, I would like to thank Samford for allowing me to continue to play the game that I love”.
